I'm having a couple of days on the south coast, Lyme Regis and Swanage and a wood yard to look in would make the trip even more fun. Does anyone know of a yard in either of those areas or in between.
thanks
Simon

Not wood, but there's also http://www.thetoolbox.org.uk/ in Colyton

Axminster is less than 15 minutes away from Lyme, Yandles (http://www.yandles.co.uk/ tools, wood yard, crafty beads & knitting, and a coffee shop) in Martock ~40 minutes; or both of them are pretty much en route (from London to Lyme) if you go via Ilminster on the A303.

Yes, Lyme Regis is a diversion to look at the tools on the way to Swanage. An interesting wood yard would be the icing on the cake.

Thanks! Didn't realise Yandles is so close to my route. Got to be worth a bit of a diversion. And another tool shop to look at!

If you're coming down the 303 to the sea it barely counts as a diversion, 5 minutes max; the beady/crafts/gallery/coffee shop aspects can be useful pacifiers if required for those not of a woody disposition. Their wood yard is rather fun to rummage through, but it may be a little picked clean after last weekend's bunfight.

Try hazelbury timber supplies and bulbarrow timber. Find both via google.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas. I went into Yandles and then onto the Tool Box and lingered so long there that SecondHandTools was shut!
Despite their remarkable stock I think maybe Yandles was a bit post-show-weekend depleted. I was hoping for some American cherry for a clock case I am planning as a wedding present but in it's absence bizarrely opted for some black walnut instead.
The Tool Box was wonderful! Strange to find a very specialised gem of a shop in such a rural location. I didn't spend a lot but what temptation!
Just one more question. Steamed pear. What is it and what is it used for?
thanks

Steamed pear - yummy with custard?

Or, for a more sensible answer from http://www.finefurnituremaker.com/news/ ... -pearwood/
The steaming slightly changes the colour of the timber from being pale fleshy pink to a slightly darker, redder fleshy pink. The steaming is done to remove and kill the huge borers that can munch their way through the entire tree.
