I'm considering making a mantlepiece.
In order for it to pass Domestic Control it has to be cheaper than an equivalent purchased one, not taking my time into account.
I know how to make them - I've dismantled and restored two marble ones in the past and installed a couple more. The wooden ones, if anything, are simplified versions of the marble ones (and a darn sight lighter weight!). The bit I really don't have time to do is any decorative effects, and I'd resort to applied roundels or splays to do that (might do corbelling, as that's fairly easy).
Can anyone suggest a supplier? I'm looking for something probably 3" diameter. I'm probably making in 22mm MRMDF for painting afterwards. Had no success searching the bay, butr it's hard to know what the correct term is.
Thanks,
E.
