Smoothing plane

Can anyone recommend a budget to mid range smoothing plane that's up to the job.
I bought one last week, sharpend the blade but no mater how tight the blade is it always moves.

I know you get what you pay for.

Why not buy an old Stanley No4 from Ebay and have a fiddle? There are a million threads on here or generally online that will walk you through fettling an old plane. You'll end up with something far better than you could buy for a similar amount and you'll get to understand what's important in terms of plane anantomy and sharpening.

If your budget would run to it the Wood River or Quangsheng Planes are the best bang for you buck by a country mile, not the cheapest option but a good plane will last you a lifetime.
