hi to everyone ,
I have a SIP tn3 air compressor which will not start its only 1 1/2 years old had very light use .
the capacitors look fine but when I switch the electric on there is a pop from the motor and a puff of smoke comes out of a little hole next to the earth connection .
it trips the rcb of the house immediately but does not blow the fuse in the plug , can anyone help at all . thanks to any replies

From you description, there is some form of leakage to earth and the puff of smoke suggest it is significant.

These little compressors vibrate quite a lot so it could be some insulation has rubbed through. you need to open up the area when the smoke comes from and apply mk1 eye ball to find the problem.

cheers Myfordman Now trying to get things apart

Warning, a tripped MCB or RCD is no guarantee that there is no power/voltage to that circuit.

Take care.
