screwing into worktop

I am making a router table extension to my table saw. This is a piece of worktop, with angle irons to allow bolts to slide into the side rails of the table saw.

What fixing should I use t secure the angle iron to the worktop?

Most modern screws are now optimised for chipboard - they will be straight (not tapered) and sharp edged. Probably best to drill a small pilot hole first especially if you need to go near the edge.
