You can turn just about anything. If it's green it'll bend as it dries, but the more wood you have removed the less likely it is to split.
Scots Pine is "redwood" and was often turned for architectural features, balusters and onwards.
 
If you intend seasoning it yourself act quickly. It will split at the drop of a hat.
Once dry your tools need to be very sharp to get any kind of a decent finish. Lovely wood to turn green though.

Not sure where to keep it yet, but getting about 30 pieces approx 2' diameter x 12" deep. Gonna need a bigger lathe #-o
