Hi everyone,

I want to clean the blade on my table saw and I read that this product is quite good .....CMT 2050 BLADE and Router Bit CLEANER ..... has anyone used it ?

If not, what would you recommend for cleaning the blade ?

Brian

Oven cleaner is often used for cleaning the gum/resin off blades/ router bits. So you get more for a lower price. :)

Anything that will soften grease will work. Oven cleaner, hob cleaner, anything like that.
I us a melamine tray (not a metal one that might chip the WC teeth), spray on CIF Stainless Steel cleaner, leave it for half an hour. Then I use a nylon or brass brush (again, not a steel one) and a wooden spatula to scrape off the softened gunge. Wipe with a kitchen roll and job done.

Thanks guys ! I'll give the oven cleaner a try.

Isn't this the sort of thing we employ apprentices for?

MMUK ... I've already tried the wife

I read in Kelly Mehler's book about the table saw "Stay away from oven cleaning products because they tend to break down the cobalt binder that holds the carbide particles together".
I thought this was a load of yankee rubbish but when I asked Stuart at Hamilton Beverstock, my local blade specialist, he did confirm this to be correct.
I'm not saying don't use the oven/kitchen products, I'm just saying be careful.

Shopping again!
You don't need anything except an old chisel or a sharpish scraper. Take the blade out, lay it flat and scrape towards the teeth. A few bits will be left but you will get rid of most of the gunge. If it's really hard it'll soften with a bit of warmth. Best done just after you've been using it when it will be nicely warmed up.

Ditto band saw blades except you don't need to take them out - hold a scraper to each side of the blade as it runs.

The simplest and easiest way to clean resin off anything is to submerge the item in a tray of diesel overnight. The gunk will come off with gentle rubbing using a rag the following day.

I have been using the CMT Bit/Blade cleaner for years: works great. And the added bonus
is that it has an anti-corrosion ingredient that helps keep rust at bay. I use it routinely to wipe down
table saw blades, router bits, and even use it as a lubricant when grinding/honing blades on
diamond plates (e.g., DMT) and micro-finishing film. It is cheaper by the gallon.

A sharpened hacksaw blade with a wood and taped handle, careful scrape, scrape, using the sharpened end and side's
(I wonder if someone has thought of a gadget for this)?

Mr Muscle window and Glass cleaner works well, it softens up the deposits and a quick scrub with a brass brush is all you need.
