I have used Caterpillar safety shoes and boots for work over thae last few years. The last pair of cats that i have had havent been as durable as those before them, and whilst all of the others needed no breaking in, these last were not exceptionally comfortable straight out of the box. All in all, i have been a bit disappointed

Any suggestions what to get next- work will pay so they do not need to be the cheapest of the cheap, but the budget needs to be somewhere around the price of Cat. Probably looking at a pair of boots rather than shoes.

Have 2 pairs - 1 pair of Cats for general outdoor\car\etc stuff and they don't come into the house. Then another pair for inside the house stuff - these are Dewalts.

Can't say I've had an issue with either to be honest, in terms of comfort or durability.

Sorry not to be of more help.

I have been using cofra boots for the last 4 months or so. They are the most comfortable boots i have ever had. It is like wearing trainers all day :)

I have Rock Fall safety boots. They look like trainers but with ankle support, and have steel toe protection and sole plate. They are made with Gortex so are waterproof and allow air in and out to keep feet from getting too sweaty. They are markedly superior to anything else I have used during 40 years in construction.

I swear by Himalayan 5204. Warm, comfy, pretty much waterproof. Last pair I had I wore everyday for 18 months before the sole started to split and let water in if you stomped in puddles. To be fair I do abuse my work boots a lot. 18 months is the high end of the lifespan of boots for me.

Only thing that comes close is a pair of chainsaw boots that I got from a company I worked with. They were £200 though!!!

+ 1 for Dewalts , brilliant . They are the ones with the smoother sole that raps around the front and back of the foot a bit . like wearing trainers . Screwfix are selling them at about £40 at the moment .

Kind regards Dusty

Dewalt ones are good, but I've noticed different models of dewalt wear differently. I had one pair that lasted ages then my latest pair that are called bolster have not faired quite as well. A guy I work with bought the same ones and he said the same thing.

I wore Karrimor's for years and they never let me down, lasted forever and were always comfy

just bought a pair of Cofra's and so far they've been great, really comfortable

Did you buy online or from a store local to you please? I can only find one online supplier http://www.safetybootsuk.co.uk and they will charge £6 if they don't fit and you have to change them. Oh and you have to return the originals at your own cost; so could be expensive if they don't fit! Usually I need a half size so as they only seem to do full sizes there is a good chance I would order the wrong ones.

Do you know if they are stocked in any stores or only sold online please?

i got mine online from progressive safety footwear. it was through work, so i dont know about carriage charges/return charges etc

Just had a look at their site, unfortunately, they don't seem to stock Cofra. Thanks anyway.

You might need to do some searches, after a quick google for cofra. This site showed up, although no good to you as such. They do have a trade counter.

Thanks. Did another search but can only find online retailers, this being one of them.

Following advice here I bought a pair of Cofra safety shoes - the ones with the velcro fastener - and they are great. Very comfortable, much lighter than my previous Dickies boots and the velcro fastener is great for getting them on / off quickly when I need to come into the house for drinks, meals etc.

i got a pair of the cofra boots. They are lightweight, and seem ok so far. Time will tell how long they last.

Caterpillar, Dewalt, JCB etc do not make safety boots or clothing (ppe) nor do they even design and specify them. They are the designer labels of ppe so you pay through the nose for a label. Note the style, sole pattern etc. and then search around. You are sure to find identical gear (without the label) for half, or even less, of the price.
