I forget the guy's name, but back when Festool was called Festo, the guy who had the Leigh franchise in the UK used to demo at shows and he used the 1010.

Thanks for the replies guys.I have seen Peter Parfitt's video but he uses the OF1400,the bigger version of the router I am talking about but again thanks for the replies.

You need the 1400. Not because of any lack of power but because the 1010 only has an 8mm collet and you'll want the facility of using 1/2" shank router bits.

Good luck.

Good point Custard.
But, TBH, even though I love my Festools, why would you need a Festool router to use a DT jig? For that kind of movement I think I would prefer the ergonomics of a more conventional 2-handled machine.

I use a DeWalt 625 on a Leigh jig for exactly the reasons you say, the balance is better for that application. However, a Festool is still a good choice because the fit of a dovetail from the jig relies on almost zero run-out and almost perfect perpendicularity on the plunge action (the much vaunted Leigh adjustable guide bush can not entirely compensate for these factors). I often use routers at close to their design limits (cutting the grooves for 1mm wide string inlay or cutting 70mm deep mortices) and it's been my sorry experience that all routers are not created equal!

Thanks for your replies guys, have now used my OF1010 and found it to be far better than my Bosch conventional router, the only problem I have found is that the Leigh guide bush keeps coming loose in the Festool guide bush adapter.

Ramon Weston Steve?
He used two routers for speed and convenience; ergo I went for something less exotic and had two Elu 177es. :D
