Hi all, I’m about to build an external store for SUP boards (think extra long surf boards). I know very little about making things from wood but I don’t think this should be too hard as a project. Am keen to know what the right sizes and types of wood would be for this and also a recommendation on best place to buy. Here’s some more info on the project:

This storage area will be going adjacent to my house and will be on an existing solid, flat tarmac area.
Size will be approx. 15ft long by 5ft wide by 7ft high
The idea is to have a rear section and 2 sides with an open front
The rear will need supports to store the boards horizontally one above the other (x8 – I must stop buying them ;-) )
The roof I imagine will be thinnest WBP with felt but open to suggestions

My concerns/questions are:

The span to support the roof at the front will be 15ft so I wonder what thickness I need for this to be strong enough
Do I need pressure treated wood? I wasn’t planning to stain etc as natural colour will be fine where it is
In general terms I was thinking to use 4 uprights (100m sq?) for the corners (no surprise I guess there) and an additional 2 uprights along the back section which I’d mount brackets to to hold the boards. Would add some diagonal supports in at various places. Am thinking to use thinner planks running horizontally to provide some structure and also reduce water entry – though this isn’t critical of course.

Any suggestions really appreciated to save me wasting time/money.

Thanks
Adam
