hi has anyone fit a vintage cst steel plane blade say from an old woodie .
i found in my box of bits a 2" marples hibernia cast steel blade and set about fitting it in a record no 4 .
1st job was to thickness the blade a little its still alot thicker than the old record blade by nearly 1.5 mil said blade was then drilled out at opposit end for the frog screw to pass through.
then fit cap iron and test fit in plane it fits fine 1st go and works perfect after a few passes i opend the mouth of the plane just a tad and wow what a plane it took me a couple of hours to do so try it you may like it.

Idid that with an early bailey #5-1/2 with the narrow blade. I had a tapered cast steel iron that fit. It makes what is essentially a large wide smoother, kind of like a panel plane. I don't use it a lot, but it is fun when I get it out.
