At the last club meet I brought three turning tools for £10 one, Ashley Iles point tool, one Robert Sorby 3/4" skew chisel and a Henry Taylor box scraper with a home made handle which I did not like the feel of so decided yesterday to turn a new one and finished it today by fitting the tool into the handle.

As I quite like the Robert Sorby style handles i went for that shape.

In the three photo's the first is the tools as brought, the second is the old handle along side the replacment and a Robert Sorby tool for a pattern.
The final photo is the completed tool ready for use it feels nice in the hand.

The larger ones are big enough for the largest turning tools. I've not found anything like the value anywhere else.

I used some free copper tubing you can't get better value than that  , just chat to a local plumber

Sorry Derek but this is really not up to your usual standard. I have just compared your handle to the Sorby one and there is a .75mm difference.

Good job though. :)

It does look a little like that Steve and not the most comfortable shape to hold either

That was one ugly handle ! Quite right to replace it, and the new one looks much better. Am I right in thinking the original ferrule was a sawn off solder ring type plumbing fitting ?

I'd like to second Phil's recommendation for proper - or brass at least - ferrules. Copper pipe may be free, but to me it just doesn't look right. I'm not sure why I feel so strongly about this, but I know I'm not alone !

Yes it was one of the solder type connectors and it was way bigger than needed. As for the copper I am not that worried about the look of it as long as it does the job which it is in this case
