I'm thinking of buying a large disk to use as backup for our computers, but want to put it out of the house, so that if there should be a fire/flood that takes out the 'office' it won't also wipe out the backup.

We have a wireless network, so my question is, what is the minimum amount of kit that I'd need to be able to put a standalone disk drive out in the workshop, or even next door's garage, and connect it to our network? Can you get wireless disk drives of a decent capacity? And if not why not for goodness' sake?

Hi there,

I do not know if PM sent means this is off-line but .............

if you have reasonable knowledge you should consider using http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/info.html - this will allow you to backup multiple PCs based on a schedule.

Have a look at the FAQs.

This can easily be setup over a wireless network. The first time will be fairly onerous and thereafter only what has changed is moved.

Something to consider.
