I'm in the process of looking for my first lathe.

I went to ask about tutition at a local club and they were really helpful.

They have 4 Record DML320's only a few months old and i'm told they have had some problems with the speed controller.
Record replaced all 4 lathes no problem and put it down to a bad batch.

Has anyone else come across a similar problem?

The price of the Record is about right for my budget but obviously i want to get it right.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

A mate has had a DML320 for about 9months. The motor refused to work a couple of weeks back and Record sent a replacement motor staight away. I think this model only came out last winter so perhaps a few have had some electrical issues? That aside its got a pretty good spec for the money with the largest spindle capacity in its class as far as I can see. The only other lathe in the price range is the Jet but it's of smaller capacity all round than the Record.

I've got the Axminster AT1416VS which is very nice but it's a lot more money.

I had a wee alignment issue with the spindle bearings being out of whack but it was fairly easy to diagnose and fix, no other issues, been running for 3 months and doing a lot of heavy lifting for a little machine, overall I couldn't be happier for the price.
