Hi,
Managed to spend some time in the workshop yesterday. Problem I have is the lathe does not turn on full power when in its highest speed setting. it does turn but very slowly, when I changed the belt drive to a slower ratio it runs well.
it runs in top ratio but feels as if there is something slowing the speed ? Could it be my bearing is out of alignment or is the motor on its way out.

John

1. Slacken the belt.
2. Does the motor run?
3. Does the spindle turn easily?
4. If both of above are OK look for a damaged belt or not tightened fully on high speed.

Did as you said Bill and now it is
Sorted,
The problem was the bearing Washer/nut in the housing had worked loose and the bearing was out of alignment causing additional friction on the bearing which slowed the bearing down on high speed.
Tightened the housing nut and now all working fine no longer out of alignment and running true and fast.
I will now check that housing nut pre use everytime before use. #-o
lesson learnt

Thanks Bill
