Has anyone knowledge of the electrical wiring on the Record BS400. I thought the problem was the switch, but this has been replaced and still not firing up. May be the other door catches, but I am not too electrically minded. Can anyone help please?

Alex

I've already done that John and was trying to make sonme headway as they cant send anyone out till after Christmas. They think it MAY be the motor so are sending one and I will see if I can manage to change it myself when it comes on Monday.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks Vic, I have the diagram but was wondering if anyone had such problems before. Could be the motor, so thats the mext thing to try. With no expert to come out, some of the latest boxes will have to wait.

To check the motor perhaps you could just wire it up directly to a 13 amp plug bypassing all the other stuff? If it still doesn't start up it could be a capacitor if your motor has one.

Forgot to add, when I checked the motor on my BDS250 it was obvious the capacitor was knackered as the casing had split and the "Ectoplasm" had leaked out!

Never thought of checking the motor that way. Neither did Record or they would have mentioned it. May have a go next week.

Thanks for the info & hope you have a great Christmas with you and your family.

Have a nice Christmas yourself Malcolm. Just keep safe mate, electrickery doesn't take prisoners!

I would suggest checking the micro switches on the doors. I believe Random Orbital Bob (AKA Mr BS400) had a similar problem not long ago.

Terry.

Thanks Terry,

I've had a look at them and they are clean and the door connections are clean, but is there a way to check them that is easy to do please?

Do you have a multi-meter? If so unplug the machine and stick your probes in the back of the micro switches (one probe in each wire), set the meter to continuity when the switch is un-pressed I would think it will be open circuit , if this is the case when the switch is pressed it should have continuity. This may work the other way round but either way you can work out if the switches are the problem. Or a quicker way bridge the wires in the back of the switch and then test the machine.
