Good morning all. I'm new to the forum. I have just picked up a second hand bs350 bandsaw. The saw is in good condition and looks kik it hasn't been used often.

Upon getting the bandsaw home. I turn the saw on (without the blade attached) to check that it was still running fine after the journey. Saw starts up fine and is relatively quite, but when I turn it off, after about 3 seconds I here what I cam.only describe as a single clunking noise, like something is hitting something. It happens everytime and sounds like its coming from the motor area. Is this normal? I was wondering if I may be a breaking system on the saw? This is my first time owning one and not sure what if its normal to hear this or not.

Any advise much appreciated

Cheers

Dan

I think what you describe is the blade break kicking in, I'm pretty sure it's to make sure the blade stops spinning within 10 seconds of hitting the off switch.

This is perfectly normal. Induction motors have a centrifugal switch that is part of the mechanism that gets the motor started - once started this is switched out by the rotation. When switched off and the motorcomes to rest the switch returns to its resting position. Some motors are more pronounced than others - on my bench drillit is very noticable.

Hi SD
I have a 350S and I have 2 audible clunks so to speak. 1) is the lock on relay clicking in or releasing on off. 2) Is the centrifugal switch tripping. The 2) is the louder and deeper sounding clunk.

Hope this helps .

Cheers guys. It sounds exactly like what you all have described. That helps and puts my mind at rest! Just wasn't sure as this is my first bandsaw. Gong to start reading up on using and tuning it this weekend

Much appreciated

Dan

The first thing you should do is order a couple of blades from Tuffsaws. Preferably two 1/2" rip blades and two 1/4" general purpose. Doing so now will save you a great deal of grief, as it will make setting the machine up and getting the best from it much easier.
