Hi All

Does any one have any plans/drawings or photos of a homemade floor mounted tool rest, I will be wanting to turn with the head swiveled over the bars, the CL£ has a tool rest for this which I have but if I want to turn any thing deep I'd need a free standing rest.

Regards
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Almost any way of creating a stable platform at the right height and distance away from the business end of the lathe will work. The freestanding toolpost is a compromise between heavy weight, ease of moving and stability which are tricky to get right. The basic idea of a big lump of concrete with a stiff tube sticking out of it is described well here...

I've made my own Vicmarc style swivelling toolrest in the past but the floor in my new workshop is not level so it had to go in favour of a cheap bed extension and riser toolpost from Axminster https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums...t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search.
