I'm looking for the above for woodworking items that I might sell.

Having been working freelance in another industry for many years so I've used it for other businesses so am fairly familiar with the principle.

Does any one have recommendations of good companies that offer this - by that I mean a good price but also just as equally good cover just in case I needed it?

Looking on Google people seem to be quoting around £350.

HI & welcome to the forum

I use GM Imber HERE

Their policys start from £50 for £5,000,000 cover.

Do you intend the insurance for selling or are you looking company liability insurance. If the latter then 350 might not be too bad, but if it is simply public liability in case someone trips over on your stall then 50 quid is resonable.

Try direct line my wife pays under 50 for stall selling glassware, or the market traders association

Thanks for your replies.

In response to 'Bean's response I'm looking for insurance so that if an item I sell were to be faulty through my error then am looking for insurance to cover that. In computing it is called professional indemnity but in the woodwork / craft world I'm not sure what it is called.

For example, if I were to make a picture frame and let us say a joint was faulty - of course I would try to make sure it wasn't - but let us say it falls on someone's head because say the joint failed, I would like insurance to cover me for that both for legal matters and any compensation.

I think it might be known as Product Liability insurance. You might try Ian Wallace - http://www.craftinsurance.co.uk/ who has long specialised in this field. I also have a policy from Axa through Gibbs Denley which also covers buildings and contents, and is rather more than £350. Don't know how flexible their policies are though.

That is "product liability" insurance. How an insurer would regard a (presumably?) small operation with bespoke products I have no idea. It is getting to be more the case that small policies that aren't bog standard in the risks they cover aren't economically viable and insurers won't write them. You need a broker who is used to dealing with small business policies.
