Pub bench or picnic table

Any suggestions iv.e just made a picnic table or even a pub bench what ever we call it ;Iv,e made the picnic table from a soft wood i had lying around the wood was starting to twist and bend so i made the picnic table not to waste the wood there are lots of cracks and knots in the timber so should i seal the timber first or should i give it a good coat of wood preserver ?What do you recommend thank,s in organisation

It depends somewhat on how rustic you want it to appear.

Personally I would give it a good soaking with wood preserver and let that dry (go?) off, then give it a good few coats of paint to help it last as long as possible and minimise the dreaded movement
