Hi , I am after some advice , I have just replaced the gunwales on my 10ft dinghy and before varnishing I was wondering if any preservatives were available that can be applied that won't affect the varnish adhesion / staying on the wood ?

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks

I've always used clear cuprinol before finishing external woodwork (in my case soffits and facia boards prior to painting).

OK Thanks

will find out if its oil based before purchasing and trying

Same suggestion as Bob but never used any preserver on boat work myself. Used cuprinol with Sikens over the top with no problems on external door frames and the like.
