Plate rack.

I've been asked to make a dresser top, with a plate rack on the shelf.
Does anyone have any experience of what actually works with different sized plates?

They have requested the vertical dowels slope backward to allow access to smaller plates.
I was thinking sitting these on a solid shelf, maybe with grooves or battens to locate the bottom of the plate and if necessary, vertical dowels at the back.

Does that sound like a feasible plan, or am I missing a simpler solution?

I just thought I would follow this up in case it was useful to anyone in the future.
I fixed the front set of dowels leaning back at 25 degrees and the rear dowels are vertical.
They are fixed on a solid shelf.
This seems to work nicely with all different size plates.

It's not in the same league as a lot of the stuff posted on here!
But I'm pleased with how the rack worked out.
I asked the customer to check their plates fitted in before I left - I was a little nervous!
