Try as I might I can’t figure out how to remove the plastic cable grommet which clamps/feeds a cable into the switch box of my lathe…pic attached of the kind of grommet I’m wittering on about. Can anyone advise please as I’m about to replace the switch box?

The is a two-piece grommet that snaps into place, as shown in the image below.

To remove them, use a pair of pliers to squeeze where indicated by the white arrows and pull the grommet and cable from the chassis. Removal is usually easier if you can access the other side of the grommet and squeeze at the same points while pushing it out of the hole.
