A few weeks ago I asked if the planer knife setting jigs were any good. Charley kindly sent me a set to try on my
Metabo, I haven't had chance to try them until now. As charley said there is not a lot of room to work with even with the
outfeed table removed. With a bit of care I managed to set them up okay and seems to plane even better than before.
What did intrigue me was when I removed the blade fron it's holder I discovered that it seemed to be set in a fixed position
and it was a matter of just putting a new blade in the holder and no setting would be necessary, the only way I could think is that the magnetic jigs lifted the whole thing, blade and holder.
However all is now well machine is running fine.
Just another point I would like to mention is the other day the machine failed to start, I checked all the obvious things like fuse connections e.c.t I rang Metabo and the engineer said it was probably the third limiter switch he said that the grub scew had a habit of jumping loose, he explained that this could be located inthe drive belt housing. The funny thing was that
when I returned to the machine the next day it started, I told the man from Metabo this and he advised me to leave well enough alone I t had found it's own way back. This seems a very strange set up to me. Anyhow if anyone has a Metabo
260P/L and it fails to start this could be the reason, the whole switch set up seems a flimsy affair on mine the continental type plug kept coming out of it's socket I had to pull the prongs in to make a tighter fit
I would like to thank Charley once again for the Jigs. (
Still didn't get his address.)
All the best everyone
