I should think there was quite a lot of flat planing in that - the fronts are (mostly) flat and all the back boards.
It's kind of how my timber frames have turned out where I had to fit the only pieces of wood I had that would reach - they don't always arrive at a place of symmetrical jointment where they would if I had the luxury of cutting them out of something bigger/straighter.
I like it overall except the wine rack seems over done in the mad dpt. No self respecting hobbit would put his vino in such jeopardy.
I think there's quite a lot of skilled work in that. Curves always add complexity (see female of species for details), and fitting a curved door in a curved frame must be a nightmare. The carving looks neatly done, too.
Taste is subjective - it would be a boring world if we all had the same thing. That said, it's not to my taste - but maybe I'm just boring?
I feel both intrigued and revolted, can't say its to my taste, I think it would drive me barmey having to look at it all day, let alone fit stuff in it properly. However I can't help but marvel at the workmanship
Impressive, intricate, intensive in time consumption......but I couldn't live with it. It's just too visually unsettling. Reminds me of LSD-inspired 'art' works.....
