Hi, I have a Stanley No 6 Bailey plane (US made). The corners of the lever cap have chipped off. Will this affect the performance of the plane and if so is it worth spending the tenner a replacement will cost?

Thanks

Bill

When you say corners, if you mean something the size of a golf ball dimple, then no big deal. If the cosmetics are important to you, then you can do something to replace the lever cap but make sure that it is an identical length from the screw hole, because where the top of the lever cap rests on the cap iron matters. If it rests on the back of the cap iron because it's too short, it'll cause you problems at some point.
