I am thinking of buying a second hand Pay as you go Blackberry phone, it has a card in with £10 credit.
If I get it, will I get a new number and can I just use it strait away?
I do have a phone but it is years old and I have not used it for over a year as I have trouble texting but with the Blackberry it has a qwerty key board that may help me.

The simple answer is that you will probably have a choice of number and yes you should be able to use it straight away.

The number, and any payg credit, belong to the "SIMM" - the little card in the phone.
You will get a new one (with a new number) with the BlackBerry and you have an old one in your old phone.
Provided that they are the same physical size and the recipient phone is 'unlocked' you can swap them over.

Smaller size SIMMS only came in fairly recently so are unlikely to be an issue.
The secondhand phone is very likely to be unlocked already. Unlocking is easy to do (just search online for instructions) and is perfectly legal.

You could even buy a new SIMM on its own from any high street phone shop - this might give you a better deal on what usage allowance you would get for your money.

I also have trouble texting and if i remember correctly the blackberry has small keys and was no good at all for my chubby fingers ,would hit two keys all the time.
