Painting over silicone polish

when we were in Spain my wife came across jumbo size aerosols of furniture polish at knock down price, so everything in the house has had a good coating, including paintwork.
now for the problem, I want to repaint 2 doors, cleaned and sanded in the usual way, but paint wont adhere, as though the surface is oily, so I am fairly sure the polish is to blame.
any suggestions would be appreciated, before I sand back to bare timber.

i think that you will have to go right back to bare wood. silicone is an absolute nightmare for finishes.

I was gonna suggest zinsser, but thought I'd check the small print. For waxy surfaces, zinsser recommends grax-it. http://www.decoratingdirect.co.uk/viewp ... DEGREASER/

Not used it myself, but sounds it might be worth trying.

I think I will go for bare wood option. gives me an excuse to buy a shiny new sander.
needless to say remaining stock of polish is in the bin.
