So being in a hurry to rescue some neglected softwood garage windows, I just sanded off the flaking paint and gave the exterior frame and beads a good brushing with green cuprinol trade preserver.
It was an older can of the solvent based stuff.
Once it was too late, I read the label which says don't use this if you want to overpaint
Cuprinol helpline was quite helpful and clarified that the product is intended to be a standalone treatment and contains waxes to encougage water to roll off, so painting is not out of the question but the problem will be breaking down the surface and getting decent adhesion.
I'm minded to give it some time to dry out, then use 40 grit on an oscillator to roughen the surface again and try to paint over starting with primer.
Can anyone offer any words of advice on the prep or paints to get someting to stick ?
Thanks !
