A relative uses Outlook on his computer for work but would like to access his emails from home occasionally.

Could it be done by signed in to Outlook.com using his original email and password?

And if so, would he still be able to access his emails while at work with the Outlook program on his PC?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Yes, thats what I do, I think you have to set up outlook to leave messages on the server after you've read then that way you will down load new messages onto both computers when you log in.

Thanks for the reply, Chrispy.

Tonight I created an Outlook.com account and managed to link it with Outlook Express on my computer, just to work out how it's done as the person's computer I'm doing this for is 180 miles away so anything his end would have to be done over the phone.

I created the real Outlook.com account and talked him through how to leave messages on the Outlook Express server but it didn't work, so I got him to read out his incoming/outcoming server details:

Incoming Mail Server...............pop.1&1.co.uk............Hotmail/Outlook.com.......pop3.live.com
Incoming Server Port Number.....110..........................................................995

Outgoing Mail Server...............auth.smtp.1&1.co.uk......Hotmail/Outlook.com.......smtp.live.com
Outgoing Server Port Number.....25.............................................................25

I haven't a clue what it all means or what it's for - the Hotmail/Outlook.com details I found from google.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mark

In outlook express click on the tools tab go to the internet accounts, click on properties of the account in question then click advanced and then tick the box that says "leave messages on server.

That's what I did when I practiced linking a Hotmail account I created with Outlook Express before trying to talk the person through it properly step by step over the phone.

However, when I tried to link his Hotmail/Outlook.com account with his Outlook Express it wouldn't work, so I asked him to read out the server details and they obviously didn't match. The problem is that I'm 180 miles away to mess about with the settings myself and his computers are absolutely vital for work so I can't make a mistake.

From what I gather, he is using 1&1 Web Mail with Outlook Express and I am trying to link it with Hotmail/Outlook.com, which is confusing me.

In my post above are his Server details to the left, and to the right are the Hotmail/Outlook.com details I found online. Should I simply input the Hotmail details, or would that do something with 1&1?

I have used 1&1 web mail and it is the pants. Its also a pain to integrate to another system.

Using the 1&1 account your 180 miles away mate should just set up the 1&1 mail to forward to another mail account and to delete once forwarded. This isn simple to do using the 1&1 interface.

Hotmail , I recently heard, has been announced as being closed down in about 12 months and all accounts transferred to Outlook....I don't have a Hotmail account but came across this in a Microsoft announcement to the developer community.

Your mate may want to reconsider using Hotmail.
