Hello,

This is my first post on here and thought I would ask a little advice. I have a nova 1624 lathe, which is a cracking thing, but I fancy upgrading to the DVR headstock but it is a lot of money (the difference in new price between the two lathes). My questions are,

1, Is the upgrade worth the money?
2, Can the head stocks simply be swapped?
3, Is there a market to sell the 1624 headstock (rather than it get in my way)?

Cheers!

Hi
I've got the same lathe and have also looked at upgrading, a cheaper way of doing it would be to swap out the motor for a 3 phase and have a converter/ inverter ( never sure which one it is?) You can buy the complete package from haydock converters for around £450 for a 2 HP motor I think

That is something I haven't considered but will certainly look in to. I like the lathe but I'm finding it a real pain to be changing the belt all the time. Another option was to sell the complete lathe and buy a new DVR but unless I get new price for my lathe (which I won't) it would work out dearer.
