hi all i am new to this site i was just woundering what the best chisel to buy for my lathe. The lathe i have just got is a record cl3 it add a lot of upgrade dun to it i am all so new to wood turning regards mark

Many turners on youtube say the most versatile tool is a 3/4" bowl gouge. Not so sure myself, but whatever you do, don't be tempted to buy one of the el-cheapo sets of chisels you see on ebay. Those are enough to put you off turning altogether. In my opinion they are downright dangerous in the wrong hands.
The Axminster Perform (budget) range are good value for money. It might be worth trying to pick up some 2nd hand stuff too. That way you will get better quality tools at a lower cost.

Welcome Mark,

One won't be enough but you could get away with a couple to begin with.
As said, don't be tempted by the grey steel cheapo ones on ebay, they are dangerous.
There are some good second hand buys on ebay tho : crown, ashley Isles, R Sorby etc.
