hi everyone,
Sorry to be a pain, and im probably asking a question asked by hundreds before, but info on the net is rubbish.
Ive just brought a Clarke warrior 30 24L 230v 2hp air compressor, , but now im wandering what tools I can power with it,
Im a complete novice at this kind of thing, but the compressor was only £40, so seamed like too good a deal to miss, and being a huge diy fan I brought it thinking how usefull it would be, could I power such as a nail gun with it, or even an air drill.
Any info would be helpful, thankyou

You should definitely be able to power a nail gun and an air drill, and use it to spray paint and varnish providing you go slowly. It's probably got too small a reservoir to use it for continuous air sanding, the compressor would be on all the time and would get very hot, there should be something in the instructions about how long the motor can go without a rest.

Congratulations on a bargain!

Hi

You need to compare the air displacement / requirement of the compressor and tools. The Clarke you mention has a displacement of 8.7 cubic feet per minute - this is the volume of air it pumps per minute. Now look at the tools you wish to use, they need to have a lower volumetric requirement than 8.7 cubic ft/min - the bigger the difference the better.
Off the top of my head - you'll be OK for tools that don't require a constant airflow like nail / staple guns, smallish drills and spray guns will also be OK. You will probably struggle with the likes of die grinders, sand / bead blasters, power sanders.

Regards Mick

I have the same compressor unit, and a proper nail gun works perfectly, without excessive running, like this one

I use 1" - 2" ring nails on a coil to make rabbit hutches on a regular basis, as well as a brad nailer, and a palm nailer. A HVLP spray gun gets a regular outing as does the tyre inflator and constant use of the blow gun. I do recommend though putting a moisture trap ( about a fiver) inline. It's surprising the amount of water spat out the end. 3/8 drill is OK, but don't expect too much from it. Grinding flap wheel works for small jobs, but drains the tank quickly.
