I went to Cornwall to see the total eclipse in 1999 - it's an eerie thing, but utterly magical and yet humbling (at least for me) at the same time, I can see why some people travel around the world for these events, fleeting as they are.

Halleys Comet - check
Total eclipse - check
Aurora Boralis.... - still waiting.

Hale-bopp - bonus.
 
I had a vaguely memorable really total eclipse around 1979, I think that particular event was ushered in by cheap scotch.
 
I remember the 1999 one, it was my mother's birthday. A lot of farmers lost a small fortune setting up campsites when hardly anyone turned up. It was blown out of all proportion.
