Well, they were a mystery what-have-i-bought-now-t58416.html?hilit=%20sorby until I remembered to e-mail Sorby direct.
2 brass plates here.......


The answer I got back was.......
Hi.
They are sizing gauges for wood turning.
Where you have a round tenon that needs to fit a hole the open end for the peg and the closed end for the hole. These can be cut to size for different hole sizes.

Anyone seen mention of them before ?

Uh? But the open and closed ends are different sizes.................................
ah................. presumably these are the "raw" gauges, which the user then cuts/files so that open and closed ends are the same?

The simple solution is always the best!

:) Thanks, that makes sense - I didn't want to show my ignorance by admitting I couldn't see how they were supposed to work. :)
