When I started turning last year I thought I would find oak and ash in abundance but never thought I would find any yew. As luck would have it ash of bowl turning size has been pretty elusive but last January I fetched a trailer load of Yew. Yesterday, following a tip off I got another half trailer load. Again, from someone's garden and in the way.

Lucky! I need to find somewhere to get a bunch of free / cheap wood. Managed to get two small pieces of...something from my mothers garden.

This lot cost £50 and just over 150 miles of driving.......

I've no idea how much Yew goes for but I'm almost certain that's still a bargin.

get on ebay, i must have had about 2 ton of laburnum from people who have no idea what it can be used for, they listed it as firewood!
picked up one lot for £20 and full tree for £15 from manchester. Ive got my eye on another tree at the back of a derelict house pressing against a brick wall. might have to remove it to stop the wall falling over.....

contact you local tree surgeons, they have to pay to get rid of wood if they cant process it. i have about 6 tree surgeins in my phone now.
also contact local joinery manufacturers, they will have skips full of hardwood offcuts ready for digging through.
