hi,i have an erbauer mitre saw,been a great saw! now got sparks from the housing,and im told its "probably" just the brushes,they have never been renewed. is there any other reason this has suddenly happend,the saw still appears to work perfectly?

Brushes aren't much money, so worth trying anyway -def sounds like brushes.

I think brushes mostly have a limiting wire so when the carbon wears down, there becomes a point where the limiting wire is taught and stops the carbon seating fully on the armature and creates sparking.

^^ yup, this is whats happeneing, had a similar issue years ago with my previous smaller mitre saw. It may have even come with spares, check the box again - or whichever drawer is the junk drawer in your house :).

A word to the wise - you can source new brushes for A LOT less than I've seen advertised in places - things like £5 a pair etc... remove one and make a note of its shape then google replacement brushes - you'll get lots of hits from chinese manufacturers of brushes with various shapes - check the dimensions, find a match and buy a set or more. I managed to get a box of 20 brushes for less than a single pair costs over here. Sold half of them to boot :)
