I get the above when I try to open AutoRoute or one of the saved axe files I have created. I have run the setup a number of times and the problem persists. It's a 2001 version of AutoRoute.
Anyone know how to solve this or how to convert .axe files to another file format.

Don't turn off UAC, that's a risky sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Try running the program as an administrator.

To do that, right click the shortcut you use, and click Run As Administrator. You'll have to approve a pop-up box that will appear, and hopefully you should find that resolves it. If it does, you can set this option permanently...Right click the shortcut again, go to Properties, then Compatibility, then Run as Administrator. Click OK, and you're done :).

Thank you!!!!!! I can now use it again.

No worries :). It's always worth trying on older programs if they run into issues like not remembering settings, always failing to update, etc.
