So here's my problem how do I turn the base I wrecked my chisel trying to
Turn the base it hit the chuck

Mod Edit:- Layout

Turn up a domed piece of scrap in the chuck, mount your bowl with a bit of cork, anti slip matting or just some folded kitchen roll. Use the tailstock to clamp it with a revolving centre.
Remove the bulk of the waste material and remove the remaining pip off the lathe.

Holes are easily solved as well, fill with a bit of the sanding dust from your finishing and soak with CA glue. Do this after polishing the surrounding area though the glue stains the wood. Sand the hardened dust back flush when dry. Sometimes it will leave a darker circle but better than a hole.
