Hi all

Following the construction of my V1 workbench...I'll begin V1.5 of my BBQ Station.

Which timber should I be using?

V1 was fencing material.

I don't want to spend a lot. But it needs to look decent and last a couple of years in the North East. Happy to sand, paint, oil whatever.

Redwood PSE?

Cheers

Generally wood and BBQs don't mix well unless the former is to be burnt on the latter.

I have however constructed a patio area with a raised wooden beds about 300mm high with the wood section rising to approx 700mm high for a BBQ. Used patio decking + 75mm fence posts for construction. The critical part where the heat is generated is however supported by slabs as the BBQ base and a brick surround to hold the charcoal and metal food rack.

It's an Uuni 3 pizza oven and a pellet grill. Need something to lift them off the ground.

Have you any local supplies of larch of douglas fir?

Id choose treated fence posts etc rather than redwood pse -it wont last long outside

Remember, many glues are heat sensitive and will let go at surprisingly low temperatures. You'd need a fairly special epoxy for example to withstand even modest heat, same for most PVAs.

I think (but I'm not 100% positive) that Titebonds slow set PVA is the one they recommend for higher temperature applications.

The bulk of the structure will be below. And won't be under any high temperature conditions.
