Hi guys....

As the title says.... anyone got any idea as to the make of chisels here.....?

They're all marked/etched with 'HSS' except the spindle gouge, but i can assure you it's made of the same material...

They're good quality with a decent weight to them.

I wont say what my thoughts are as i don't want to sway anyone....

They look like the record power set.
I should imagine they are made by the same company who make the Faithfull, Dakota, Axminster etc sets.

If they were HT or Sorby the name would be on the handles, Just Ben's reply seems the most likely.

Record usually have their name on the handle though the handles do look like their shape. . They look like a lot of the cheaper though not necessarily poorer ones that are available now.

Record Power looks very likely (unless someone chimes in with some reason they may not be), in which case perhaps the "Faithfull" Brand?

I dropped some of my son-in-laws fathers Faithfull chisels into our local sharpening expert and he reported back that they're made of a decent steel. That was about 6 months ago and I know he's turned a load in that time without any requests for a resharpen.

Handles do look like RP ones but as stated the record ones have the name on the handle.

Suspect he must use an awful lot of abrasives then, I rarely manage a piece without at least two licks on the grinder. (he could have mastered how to sharpen them himself of course )

Hi

Nothing like Record Power - wrong shape handle - no script on handle - incorrect script on blades.

Looks like far eastern manufacture, viability will be down to the quality of the steel, (which only the owner can determine). If they do the business for you just use them.

Edited to add: Bears more of a resemblance to Crown, (minus logo on handle)

Yes judging by the amount of discs he "borrows" he is really getting through it
Any how my post prompted a phone call and he is having a go himself at sharpening, seems to be getting on well with it. They were sent to the specialist because of beginners abuse and a dose of (how should I put it ?) practice sharpening.
Good on him.
