For a while now I've been wanted a precise hand saw guide. I really just wanted to pick up one of the "Precision compound Mitre Saw" setups you see for around £30, but apparently there isn't a single model in existence that is any good unless you spend upwards of £100 for the Nobex one :(

Too much for me :(

So now I'm looking for other options. I'm sure you've all seen the magentic guides around, David Barron makes a few types and so does Veritas. But they look a little fiddly to use. I want more of a "station" to take the work to (like the saw mentioned previously), as opposed to taking the tool to the work, so was looking for something else. Came across the following. Looks ideal!

It's only for square cuts, but that will do me, at least for now. The only problem I see with all of these magetic guides is that the deeper you cut, the further the blade is from the magnet, so I suspect it'll wander. I think they need to have magnets on the front and back of the guide to, so that the blade is always within reach of a magnet. Of course this will require a different design, but I think its worth pursuing.

I think you could teach yourself to saw straight in less time than it would take to make that?

And have the sense of achievement you would accrue by doing that.

I know my limitations ;)

Besides, can people really make perfect 90 degree or mitered cuts straight off the saw? I always thought they relied upon a shooting board.
