I used to use them on a multiboring machine. They are available for left and right hand rotation. Not sure what direction you would need on the multiboring machine the cutters alternate as left,right,left,right and so on.

May be worth giving Timan a call.

They list lots of different lengths with 8mm shank with a flat

I own a Performance power dowel jointer. It looks very similar to the Mafell and does use the same style of drill bits.
It came from B&Q a few years ago and I think that the tool with 3 pairs of drills was less than £45 maybe a trip to B&Q could be worthwhile.
