Has anyone here ever bought stuff from Mackays of Cambridge? If you delve deep into their shop there are some things that are more expensive than other and some that are a lot cheaper than others.

I was interested in stuff for home made router tables and they have a lot of stuff including "knobs and locking levers" and "levelling adjusters for router plates".

They even have specialist router bits for routing acrylic would you believe. Damn expensive though lol. You can tell how expensive the Trend stuff is when you see the Airshield respirator which costs £193.88 at Mackays.

Actually browsing through the site it's apparent they hold a lot of Trend products... even spares for them too.

But Trend aside, the stuff I want (knobs and levers etc) for making jigs seem reasonable.

£17 for some inserts and a bolt!!!

Not sure if people have bought these, but why not just use a normal treaded inserts. This can be fitted/levelled into the rebate and then the insert plate fitted on top.

Mackays is my local store, and I use it when I have to. They're not generally cheaper than anywhere else, but are good as general hardware stores go.

I think you will find that though they list every Trend product, they certainly don't carry them in stock. When you order stuff, they get it delivered from Trend next day, and will then send it to you. For this sort of thing I don't think they will be any cheaper than any other Trend 'stockist'. You may as well deal with your local one.

One thing though, if you go into the actual shop, and they have something in stock (e.g. the Airshield) the price is sometimes lower than advertised on the net.

the shop's a veritable treasure trove of bits and bobs, although not cheap for tools.
If you want 17 bolts of a certain odd size then they've almost certainly got them...

That's the reason I'm going to be ordering some jig making bits next week. I can't order them for the moment because for some reason I keep spending all my money on tools and bits and bobs at the moment. On top of that an £84 gas bill just came in so I have to sort that out too and I only get £125 a week disability pay! :(

I really must save some money for my living room floor.
