 Yes. "here we have the oldest and largest living things in the world" so let's cut the barstewards down!!

I don't often take time out to watch uploaded clips, but that one was brilliant. I've stood at the base of Tane Mahuta in NZ - that is huge, but not up to these. You don't really realise the size till you see them.

Thanks for the video Bob. A few years ago I visited King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks in California where these huge Redwoods are being preserved. They are truly giants.
Cheers,
John

I was both impressed and saddened too. It does seem such a crime to cut down something so majestic doesn't it. Near where I live there is a long posh road called Wellingtonia Avenue that is lined with Giant Sequoia on either side (just up from Wellington College) and they are seriously impressive. For those who don't know, one of the alternate names of the giant Sequoia is Wellingtonia. I don't know the history but I'm guessing old throat slasher Weller's had them planted when he owned most of the land round here. I've been fascinated by them since a kid.

Cool video Rob, good find.
The start took me back a bit, climbing on irons. Been a few years since I climbed a pole or tree in that fashion :D
I wonder where the timber is now ?

You know I've never used that specialist tree climbing equipment and yet always wanted to have a go. Don't they use spiked shoes or something these days? I've seen tree surgeons positively "running" up trees almost :)

Lovely bit of Nostalgia there Bob. They don't make em like that now days.
Really Enjoyed it

No remorse for the trees other than not having one of those massive planks waiting to be cut up into bowl and platter blanks.
