I aquired (was given) yet another eclipse pistol grip hacksaw body
I got a bit of old 4TPI bandsaw blade, cut (snapped actually) it to length, used a masonery nail to punch two holes in it.

Works much better than a bow saw as you can get some decent tension on the blade.

I assume you mean the old 60B model? I'd have thought the 12" frame was a little small for that kind of work - but you've done it, and I haven't so perhaps I should give it a try.

But Bow saws can put decent tension on a blade, at least some bow saws.

Often I find the back of a bow fouls another branch.

I have a number of bow saws and always struggle with them not that I blame the tool.
