Hi all,

I need a faceplate either 6" or 8" diameter to fit a m33x3.5 thread. These are pretty common; both Record Power and Axminster make them, but they don't lock which I need it to so that I can run it in reverse.

Can anyone suggest a manufacturer that makes a locking 6-8" faceplate? Or can anyone say how difficult it would be to drill and tap a plain one from Axminster so that I could put in a pair of grub screws?

I have seen that Oneway do a plate that looks like it has holes in the right place for grub screws, but such a feature is not mentioned on their Canadian or EU sites; does anyone have one?

Thanks in advance.

The Toolpost have faceplates that size made by the people who make the Versachuck. Picture does not show if it locks but may be worth an email.

What are you doing in reverse? Just interested.

... and are you thinking of grub screws biting into the thread on your spindle?

A call to Peter at the Toolpost confirmed that their standard ones have locking grubscrews, so I'll go with one of them. Thanks everyone.

So where does the end of the grubscrew 'grab'... on the spindle thread?

Depends on the lathe - on the Nova and Wivamac there's a short section of the spindle that's not threaded. Can't comment on any others

On my Jet lathe, the 3" face plate that came with it has grub screws that touch the blank part of the spindle.
