Can anyone give me any advice on lipping veneered MDF. I am making some floor to ceiling cupboards and was going to use 25mm veneered MDF and lipping them in the same timber. Has anyone any advice as to the best way to fix the lipping. Glue, biscuits, dominos or a combination.? Also is it best to make up some sort of clamping jig as they will be about 2500mm long. Thanks Geoff

Hi Giff,

It depends on the size of the lipping. We often make the lipping into a T section which engages with a groove worked into the edge of the mdf. The lipping is then glued in place with PVA and clamped with strips of masking tape which seem to pull small lippings tightly enough.
If the lipping was thicker biscuits would also seem appropriate combined with some clamps, don't know much about dominos so can't help there I'm afraid.

Thanks GS that sounds a really good idea. I have a small T&G cutter set that would probably work well. Geoff

I normally use biscuits. If the lipping isn't very thick, you can cut the biscuit slots at different depths so that more than half the biscuit goes into the board and less than half goes into the lipping. Glue up with PVA and sash cramps.

Cheers
