For the tool fetishists amongst us, I successfully ordered my Lie Nielsen tool-porn calendar direct from Maine this afternoon. Apparently they were working yesterday too.
Costing about £18 and hopefully arriving in about a fortnight.

You are paying them to advertise their products? Shouldn't they be paying you?

Well he did qualify his post by saying "for the tool fetishists amongst us".

Sad person that I am, for me its a celebration of beautiful tools beautifully photographed. I will put it up at school and, from past experience, some kid's will be amazed that people think tools can be thought both functional and beautiful. At least a few will realise that there's more to life than the latest electronic gadget.

Blimey £18 for a calendar

Furniture & joinery production send their calendar out free of charge

Good for you Simon. There's so little craft work and tool skills training these days at schools that anything that might kindle an interest in woodwork amongst the next generation is to be applauded.

Surely the company should be giving them out for free, with the cost coming out of their advertising/marketing budget!

Well, it is not ready to use out of the box like the LV one, in the sense that you have to print it, but it is free.

Not if the suckers will pay for them!

Yesterday I took this photo of a store window in my town. They sell "violin shavings" bags for 2 Euro each. About 10 grams of fir shavings, I think.

Happy New Year to any other suckers out there who don't take life or themselves too seriously. But I do wish I wasn't quite so stupid as not to realise a manufacturer's calendar is basically an advertising medium.

Happy New Year Simon ...

...and I bet there's many here who'd love that calendar, advertising medium or not, but are too tight to buy one :)

Hi

Do you think they'd be interested in making an offer for the contents of my chip collector?

Regards Mick

No I don't think, because the violin shavings are a protected designation of origin product. They must have taken at least a month of Cremona fog.
