lathe clamp plate help please

I'm looking for options.

I recently received a live tailstock for my old SIP.
The base has been machined so it is too thin to form a snug fit in the rails.
The locking clamp also doesn't have a plate.

I don't have any engineering kit to mill a custom plate.
But I do have plenty of wood.

If I make my own plate out of a hardwood such as Oak would that be OK?

Any help will be appreciated as having waited 12 weeks I'm
A bit disappointed with the result but keen to overcome the problem.

I tried to add a photo without success as the file is too big but my "Windows" phone won't let me reduce it.

I saw a video in Youtube yesterday and to take up some slack from milling the base smooth he superglued some thin brass plate onto the base. He said if they wear then another plate and superglue made it easy to change but strong enough to last. Seemed to work well and an easy fix.

Unfortunately in my case the whole of the lower part of the pinch clamp needs to be made.
As the new one is about 1/2 wide and the gap between the rails about 2".

I used iroko to make up a spacer on my RS from 6 to 10" and it's worked for me for the last few years. I keep meaning to have a metal unit made but never seem to find the time to bother.

I just recently got a used SIP lathe.
It is complete however, there is loads of play on the tailstock.
I was going to make another plate or whatever needs to be done to make the tailstock stay put,
as there is mad slop in the design.
Something needs to be done to make it slide up and down the bed in line with the drive center always.

For instance if you needed to make an awl, this issue might prove troublesome....
So you get the tailstock in line with the drive spur (presumably with some sort of jig to line both up, as the work would be an obstacle) and you intend to drill a centered hole for the awl pin...
This slop in the tailstock would make for an inaccurate hole also.

This may require a decent fix
I don't have the time to do this yet as I'm making a Frank Klausz bench.
and I haven't even looked underneath it yet .

Interested to see what you come up with

I am presuming
• your lathe is a flat bed (as opposed to round bar), 10 speed, Reeves drive
• the piece you need is like a tee nut that centralizes the tailstock.
If so, that is easy to make with two bits of wood & a hole for the bolt to go through.

Once I get the Iroco that's what I'm planning to try and create.

I'm not sure why you think you need to use Iroco. Softwood or plywood will be more than adequate.
